EL-RUFAI SAYS APC IS D£AD, REVEALS MINISTERS BOUGHT FORMS
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed that he met with former President Muhammadu Buhari before officially leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, El-Rufai stated that he never makes major political moves without first seeking Buhari’s advice and approval.
“The APC has derailed from its founding principles. Everyone is now focused on personal gain, and the government has become commercialized—everything has a price. Justice has been sidelined, and those who worked for the party have been abandoned instead of being rewarded. If there’s an appointment, they hand it to a ‘Lagos boy’ instead,” he said.
El-Rufai further explained that he had voiced his concerns about the party’s decline. “We spoke up because this is no longer the APC we built. The party is dead. That’s why I reached out to Pastor Tunde Bakare—he was the one who introduced me to APC and took me to Buhari. I didn’t join APC because of Buhari; it was Pastor Bakare who brought me in, so I owed him that courtesy.”
He added that he also informed Buhari about his decision to leave the party and sought his blessings. “Buhari gave me his prayers and blessings. He is now the father of the land, praying for us while we handle politics. So, what else remains?”
El-Rufai concluded by publicly distancing himself from the APC. “They can keep the party and consume it however they like. We’ve moved on.”
