PRESIDENTIAL AIDE CLAIMS PETER OBI WILL JOIN APC AMID POLITICAL REALIGNMENTS

A top presidential aide has alleged that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, may soon defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, made this claim during a discussion on TVC’s Breakfast Show, addressing the ongoing political shake-ups ahead of the 2027 elections.
His statement comes amid reports that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dumped the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
“Do you know we are emptying the Labour Party? Not because we are asking them to come, but they are coming,” Bwala said. “Valentine Ozigbo has joined us, Balami has joined us, even Peter Obi will join us.”
Bwala suggested that the current wave of political movements—including talk of an opposition coalition and El-Rufai’s switch to the SDP—is driven more by personal ambition than by genuine governance reforms.
His remarks have sparked debate, as Obi remains a key opposition figure in Nigerian politics. However, neither Obi nor the Labour Party has responded to the claim.
As the 2027 elections approach, Bwala’s comments fuel speculation about potential party defections and the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s political landscape.
