“IF YOU PRESENT YOURSELF WELL, YOU’LL BE TREATED WELL” – POLITICAL ACTIVIST UMMA GETSO

Umma Getso, the former Vice Presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2019 presidential election, has expressed concerns that some women falsely accuse men of sexual harassment for political gain.
Speaking on Channels TV on Monday, March 10, Getso shared her perspective while reacting to the sexual harassment allegation made by Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
*”Let there be justice. Women deserve to be treated right wherever they are. But I must say this—having worked with men at national and international levels, across different calibers, I have observed how the definition of sexual harassment varies. In many cases, we need to redefine what it truly means.
Globally, and not just in Nigeria, there have been instances where women have exploited their gender to make such allegations for personal or political reasons. If a female senator, already in a position of power, is now claiming to be sexually harassed by a man, it raises concerns. Many men who support women’s participation in politics might become hesitant,”* she stated.
