MERCY CHINWO FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST VDM OVER DEFAMATION

Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has taken legal action against social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over alleged defamatory statements made against her online.

She is seeking N1.1 billion in damages, citing libelous and malicious remarks that, according to her legal team, tarnished her reputation.

The lawsuit, dated March 3, 2025, was filed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and was made public by Law Corridor, her legal representatives.

The legal documents accuse VDM of making “spiteful, malevolent, and grossly defamatory statements” that allegedly misrepresented Mercy’s character.

The controversy traces back to Mercy’s public fallout with her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (EeZee Tee). During the dispute, VDM accused her of secretly taking performance payments without remitting them to EeZee Conceptz, claiming she breached her contract before exiting the label.

Mercy’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, argues that VDM had no direct involvement in the case yet portrayed the singer in a damaging and biased manner.
