GRAND WELCOME AS NEWLY APPOINTED ALAAFIN OF OYO RETURNS FROM CANADA FOR TRADITIONAL RITES
A royal homecoming! The newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Abimbola Owoade, has arrived in Nigeria from Canada to undergo traditional rites ahead of his coronation.
Governor Seyi Makinde, through a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, had earlier confirmed his appointment, stating that his selection was based on extensive consultations and traditional divinations conducted by the Oyo kingmakers, the Oyomesi.
A viral video captured the moment Mr. Owoade touched down at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday evening, arriving at 6:25 p.m. alongside his wife. He was warmly received by Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, amidst a spectacular display of traditional drummers and dancers.
Dressed in a stylish blazer over a polo shirt, paired with jeans, sneakers, and a black fez cap, the new Alaafin blended modern fashion with cultural essence. As the vibrant drumming filled the air, he joined in, moving gracefully to the beats, embracing his royal heritage.
Mr. Owoade is set to journey to Oyo today (Thursday), where he will complete the sacred rites before his official coronation as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo on April 5.
