PANIC AS POLICE TEARGAS PRO-NATASHA PROTESTERS AT NASS
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday morning dispersed supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, as they attempted to access the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
Reports indicate that the protesters assembled at the assembly gate as early as 8:00 am, aligning their demonstration with the resumption of plenary and the scheduled hearing of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. However, police officers intervened, deploying tear gas to disperse the crowd, citing concerns over a potential breakdown of law and order.
Following the dispersal, the protesters reportedly relocated to the Unity Fountain in Abuja to continue their demonstration. Their protest comes in the wake of escalating tensions between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, stemming from a heated exchange over Senate seating arrangements on February 20, 2025. The dispute led to her referral to the Senate’s ethics committee.
The controversy deepened last Friday when Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, alleging that she was being targeted for rejecting his advances. These claims that have intensified public scrutiny and fueled ongoing political tensions.
