AFENIFERE YOUTH LEADER ENIOLA OJAJUNI REGAINS FREEDOM
Prince Eniola Ojajuni, the kidnapped leader of the Afenifere Youth Council, has been released, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The source confirmed the development to SaharaReporters on Saturday, stating, “Yes, he has been released this evening.” However, details regarding the terms of his release remain unclear at the time of this report.
Earlier, the Afenifere group had issued a statement demanding the immediate release of its Youth Council President, Prince Eniola Ojajuni, who was abducted recently. The communiqué, signed by the group’s Secretary General, Chief Sola Ebiseni, and National Publicity Secretary, Justice Faloye, condemned the deteriorating security situation in the country.
The statement read, “Members received reports of a young man, Prince Eniola Ojajuni, whose ordeal in the hands of kidnappers has been circulating on social media for almost a week.” The group called on the governments of Ondo and Kogi States, as well as relevant security agencies, to take swift action, noting that the abduction occurred near the boundary of both states.
It was previously reported that Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni was kidnapped on Monday, February 17, 2025. According to Abiodun Aderonhunmu, the National Secretary of the Afenifere Youth Council, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N100 million.
Aderonhunmu stated, “The Afenifere Youth Council is deeply saddened to announce the kidnapping of its National President, Prince Eniola Ojajuni, in Abuja. The unfortunate incident occurred yesterday, and the kidnappers have demanded N100 million.”
A voice recording had revealed a tense exchange between the family and the kidnappers. During the call, Ojajuni, who had been shot in the buttock, expressed distress as his captors threatened to kill him if the ransom was not paid within 48 hours.
In response to the abduction, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) reiterated its commitment to ensuring Ojajuni’s safe return. In a statement on Wednesday, police spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi urged the public to refrain from speculation or spreading unverified information that could hinder the rescue operation. He also emphasized the police’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks and improve security nationwide.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) ordered the immediate deployment of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to prioritize Ojajuni’s rescue. Ojajuni was abducted while traveling to Abuja on February 17, 2025.
