SPEAKER MERANDA SLAMS OBASA OVER 4-MEMBER PLENARY

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has strongly criticized the actions of the ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, labeling his recent intrusion into the Assembly complex as a “show of shame.”

According to a reports, Obasa, accompanied by security personnel, entered the Assembly complex on Thursday and gained access to the Speaker’s office. Later, he presided over a parliamentary session attended by only four members, following his legal challenge against the state government and the Assembly, contesting his removal as unlawful.

On Friday, 35 lawmakers who supported Obasa’s removal attended the Lagos State High Court for the hearing of the case he filed. Speaking after the court session, Meranda stressed that the legal battle was just beginning and called on all parties to allow their legal teams to manage the proceedings.

“This is truly just the beginning. As seen in court today, both parties have their representatives, and I believe we should let the legal teams do their job,” she said.

Meranda condemned Obasa’s actions, acknowledging that while he remains a member of the House and has the right to access the complex, his forceful entry into the Speaker’s office was unacceptable.

“He is still a member of the House of Assembly, so he has every right to be here. However, the invasion and breaking into my office—that is truly a serious matter. To me, it was nothing but a show of shame. In our line of work, we operate based on numbers that form a quorum. Sitting with just three or four members is nothing more than theater,” she added.
