Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has firmly denied rumors linking him to ex-Big Brother Naija housemate, Nengi Rebecca Hampson’s alleged pregnancy, calling the claims a politically motivated attack.

The speculation spread like wildfire after a popular blogging platform alleged that Diri was responsible for Nengi’s pregnancy. However, Nengi herself swiftly shut down the rumors, taking to social media to debunk the false reports.

Reacting to the allegations, Governor Diri expressed shock and dismay, questioning why such falsehoods would surface on the same day his Prosperity Administration began its 5th-anniversary celebrations.

In a statement shared on social media, his Director of New Media, Dr. Kola Oredipe, emphasized that Nengi has no personal relationship with the governor, adding that the rumors were the work of political detractors unhappy with Diri’s growing influence.

“This is nothing but a distraction. It is regrettable that purveyors of fake news are uncomfortable with the governor’s rising political profile,” Oredipe stated.

He further criticized the irresponsible use of social media, calling for better regulation to curb misinformation.

“While we were busy inaugurating a brand new road in Yenagoa, social media e-rats were spreading falsehoods about the governor. Governor Diri is a man of honour and dignity,” he added.

With both parties setting the record straight, the governor’s camp maintains that the allegations are baseless and a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image.
