SOWORE DARES POLICE, REJECTS “UNREASONABLE CONDITIONS”
Former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has announced that he has been granted bail following his engagement with the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja on Monday.
Sowore, however, emphasized that he would reject any bail conditions that compromise his “innocence, dignity, and integrity.”
According to PUNCH Online, the activist was summoned over allegations including resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, cyberstalking, and acts allegedly aimed at preventing arrests.
In a statement posted on X.com (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Sowore alleged that his invitation was a targeted response to his public criticism of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and his tenure extension. He further claimed that the police’s intention was to detain him and transfer him to Lagos for what he described as a “kangaroo trial.”
In a follow-up post, Sowore revealed that the Deputy Inspector-General of the FID, Dasuki Galandachi, had informed him of the bail offer pending the completion of an investigation.
He wrote: “The DIG of FID, Dasuki Galandachi, at the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, just informed me that he has instructed his personnel to grant me bail pending the conclusion of the investigation.
“I have also advised the DIG that in accepting bail, I will not agree to conditions that compromise my innocence, dignity, and integrity. If such unreasonable conditions are imposed, I will choose to remain in detention until charged to court. Even then, I know there is no crime defined or to be investigated—this is just impunity, which has become the hallmark of the Nigeria Police Force.”
