Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has added her voice to growing nationwide calls for electoral reform, declaring that Nigerians are citizens not slaves as protesters gathered in Abuja to demand accountability and credible elections.
“We’re citizens, we’re not slaves. We Nigerians are here today making demands from all walks of life, and we’re saying we want electronic transmission of electoral results.”
Her remarks drew loud applause from protesters, many of whom carried placards calling for electoral transparency, credible voting systems, and the immediate passage of reforms that would safeguard the integrity of future elections.
The protest forms part of sustained civic pressure on the National Assembly to strengthen electoral laws, particularly provisions related to technology-driven voting, real-time result transmission, and accountability for electoral manipulation.
