The Gombe State Government has dismissed widespread claims that several prospective corps members died in a road crash while travelling to the NYSC orientation camp in the state. According to information obtained from Punch, officials have clarified that no such accident occurred and that the viral reports circulating online are false.

The Federal Road Safety Corps spokesperson in Gombe, Janet Kassa, explained that the command conducted thorough checks across all units and found no evidence of a crash involving any corps members. She urged the public to disregard the widely shared posts, describing them as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic.

The NYSC in Gombe also debunked the viral story. The state’s Public Relations Officer confirmed that the photos and details circulating online were suspicious and did not align with any verified report from the scheme. She also noted that NYSC does not provide buses to convey prospective corps members to camp, contradicting claims that an NYSC bus was involved in the alleged crash.

The institution from which the corps members were said to have departed further stated that it was unaware of any such incident involving its students. This additional clarification strengthened the government’s position that the story was fabricated.

Authorities have urged Nigerians to exercise caution when sharing information online, especially updates concerning corps members, as such stories can easily spark fear among families and communities. The Gombe State Government reiterated that orientation activities in the state are ongoing without any recorded incident.
