OLUBADAN OF IBADANLAND, OBA OWOLABI OLAKULEHIN, PASSES ON AT 90

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90. The revered monarch reportedly joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025.

Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne following the death of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun, Alli Okumade II, who passed away on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81.

He officially received his staff of office from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024, marking the beginning of his reign as the 43rd Olubadan.

Though his time on the throne was brief, Oba Olakulehin was widely respected for his deep-rooted wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to the peace and progress of Ibadanland.

His passing marks the end of an era in the traditional leadership of one of Nigeria’s oldest and most revered monarchies.
