BENUE WOMEN SHUT DOWN ATANG TOLLGATE IN PROTEST OVER INCESSANT KILLINGS

A group of angry women in Benue State have taken to the streets in protest, shutting down the Atang tollgate to demand urgent government intervention over the spate of killings in the region.
Dressed in black and chanting solidarity songs, the women blocked traffic along the busy route, expressing grief and frustration over what they described as the government’s silence and failure to protect lives and property in their communities.
The protesters, many of whom held placards with inscriptions such as “Enough is Enough,” “We Deserve to Live,” and “Stop the Killings in Benue,” say the wave of violence has left countless families in mourning.
One of the women leading the protest told reporters, “We are tired of burying our husbands, our children, and our fathers. The government must hear us. We want peace.”
The demonstration has sparked wider conversations on security in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region, with citizens and civil society groups calling for more proactive and sustained efforts from security agencies and the federal government.
