U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran had officially taken effect, just hours after a barrage of Iranian missile attacks rocked southern Israel, killing four people.
“The ceasefire is now in effect. Please do not violate it!” Trump declared via a post on his Truth Social platform.
The announcement followed a violent overnight escalation, with explosions reported near Tel Aviv and Beersheba. Israel’s national ambulance service confirmed that four people were killed in Beersheba, marking the first fatalities since Trump initially declared a ceasefire plan on Monday.
According to Israeli military sources, Iran launched six waves of missiles before the ceasefire deadline. Tehran’s semi-official SNN agency reported that the final round of attacks was completed shortly before the truce was to begin.
A senior White House official revealed that Trump personally brokered the deal during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel agreed to the terms on the condition that Iran ceased further hostilities.
“In what should be called ‘The 12-Day War,’ I congratulate both countries—Israel and Iran—for having the stamina, courage, and intelligence to end it,” Trump wrote.
However, the situation remains fragile. Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, warned that Tehran would not uphold the ceasefire if Israel continued its “illegal aggression” beyond 4 a.m. Tehran time (0030 GMT). He stressed that Iran’s response would only halt if Israel stopped its attacks on Iranian interests.
As global powers watch closely, the coming hours will reveal whether both nations will honor the truce or spiral back into conflict.
