SUSPECTED GUNMEN ATTACK SENATOR AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN’S FAMILY HOME IN KOGI
The country home of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State came under attack Tuesday night by suspected gunmen.
The assailants, said to have arrived in large numbers, vandalized windows and other valuables in the residence before they were repelled by a combined team of security operatives, local vigilantes, and concerned youths.
One suspect was apprehended during the operation, while others managed to escape. According to reports, the arrested suspect is a native of the area and is allegedly linked to some influential political figures. He reportedly confessed to taking part in three separate attacks on the lawmaker’s family home.
Eyewitnesses revealed that an irate mob attempted to lynch the suspect before security agents intervened and took him into custody. Items recovered from the scene include a cutlass and charms. The remaining attackers, reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, are still at large.
Tuesday night’s incident marks the second attack on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s residence this year—the first occurring on April 15 without any arrests made. The latest development is being viewed as a significant breakthrough in ongoing investigations into the continued targeting of the senator’s family.
In a statement issued by her media team, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan urged the public to remain calm and continue to support justice. The statement emphasized that her commitment to advocating for her constituents should not be met with violence or intimidation.
