OMOWUMI OGUNROTIMI RECEIVES GLOBAL CITIZEN PRIZE IN NEW YORK

Renowned Nigerian gender rights advocate and lawyer, Omowumi Ogunrotimi, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Global Citizen Prize at a ceremony held in New York City on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Ogunrotimi was honored alongside distinguished changemakers including Valeriia Rachynska (Ukraine), Taily Terena (Brazil), and Lydia Amenyaglo (Ghana), for their remarkable efforts in promoting equity and justice in their communities.

Her recognition comes as a testament to her impactful leadership in gender advocacy—particularly her role in driving the passage of Nigeria’s Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill at the House of Representatives and helping implement sexual harassment prevention frameworks across 26 sub-national governments.

The event drew global attention and was attended by prominent world leaders, human rights advocates, and policymakers. Dignitaries present included UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, Sarah, Duchess of York, renowned science educator Bill Nye, and Professor José Manuel Barroso, Chair of the Gavi Board.
