PDP ON THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE — APC CHAIRMAN GANDUJE FIR£S BACK AT LAMIDO
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is on the verge of extinction, dismissing recent comments by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, as “baseless and illogical.”
Lamido had claimed that the APC would soon disintegrate and suggested that former PDP members, including Ganduje, would return to the opposition. Responding through a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje said he has no reason to abandon the ruling party for what he described as a “failing opposition.”
“In fact, we will soon receive Sule Lamido because, very soon, he won’t have anywhere else to go. The PDP is dead,” Ganduje said.
The former Kano State governor also predicted that internal divisions within the PDP would lead to its total collapse before the end of 2025. He pointed to a growing number of high-profile defections to the APC as evidence of the party’s growing strength under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.
“It is evident to any discerning observer that under President Tinubu, the APC continues to gain momentum, with prominent political figures across the country joining our ranks,” the statement read.
Ganduje reaffirmed his commitment to leading the APC, which he described as the largest political party in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. He emphasized the party’s focus on deepening internal democracy and delivering sustainable governance.
He advised Lamido to focus on resolving the challenges within his own party rather than making what he called “unfounded claims.”
Ganduje also stirred further debate on Friday when he remarked there was “nothing wrong” with Nigeria evolving into a one-party system, citing China as a functional model.
“China is one of the strongest countries in the world, and it’s a one-party system,” he said. “We are not saying we are working toward a one-party state, but if that is the wish of Nigerians, we cannot quarrel with it.”
