RIVERS STATE ASSEMBLY MOVES TO IMPEACH GOVERNOR FUBARA AND DEPUTY
The political landscape in Rivers State has taken a dramatic turn as the State House of Assembly has issued a notice of alleged misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, officially setting the stage for their impeachment.
According to a notice obtained on Monday, the Assembly stated that the move aligns with Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and other relevant laws. This latest development has fueled speculations about Fubara’s potential removal from office, especially in light of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling recognizing 27 lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Last week, Wike, during a media chat, openly supported the possibility of impeachment, provided due process was followed.
“Politics is not play. If he has done something to be impeached, let them impeach him. It’s not a criminal offence,” Wike stated.
The unfolding situation has escalated the political tension between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, raising concerns over the stability of governance in Rivers State.
