MOHBAD: COURT DISMISSES CHARGES AGAINST NAIRA MARLEY, SAM LARRY
In addition to Naira Marley, the court also exonerated other individuals linked to the case, including music promoter Sam Larry, Mohbad’s friend Primeboy, and his former manager, Opere Babatunde. However, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, an auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad, will still face prosecution. Another individual, Ayobami Sadiq, one of Mohbad’s friends, will also be prosecuted for alleged reckless and negligent acts, which violate Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law, Ch C.17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Mohbad’s untimely death has left a significant void in the Nigerian music industry. His career, particularly his time at Marlian Music, and the controversies surrounding his passing, have sparked widespread discussions. Allegations of harassment, bullying, and mistreatment emerged after his death, with many pointing fingers at his former associates, Naira Marley and Sam Larry, as the primary suspects. The public outcry for justice led to the hashtag #JusticeForMohbad trending on social media for weeks, accompanied by protests in Lagos and other states, demanding accountability and transparency.
The growing public pressure prompted Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene, inviting the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. As part of the investigation, Mohbad’s body was exhumed for further examination. Preliminary investigations into the case began on September 29, 2023, at the Magistrate Court 3 of the Candide-Johnson Courthouse in Ikorodu, under the directive of the Chief Coroner of Lagos State, Justice Mojisola Dada.
Despite these efforts, a toxicology test conducted on Mohbad’s remains failed to determine the exact cause of his death, leaving many questions unanswered.
