Zenith Bank Expands Global Footprint with Manchester Branch to Boost UK–Africa Trade
Zenith Bank Plc has announced plans to open a new branch in Manchester, United Kingdom, marking another strategic step in the bank’s international expansion and its broader ambition to deepen financial connectivity between Africa and global markets.
The official opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, and is expected to bring together government officials from Nigeria and the United Kingdom, regulators, investors, customers, and business leaders from both countries. The event highlights the growing economic relationship and investment opportunities between Africa and the UK.
According to Zenith Bank, the Manchester branch will complement its existing operations in the United Kingdom while serving as a strategic hub for businesses engaged in international trade and cross-border investment. The branch will offer a range of services including corporate banking, trade finance, treasury services, and other financial solutions tailored to clients operating across the UK, Europe, and Africa.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, described the expansion as an important milestone in Zenith Bank’s global growth strategy.

She noted that Manchester, one of the UK’s most vibrant commercial centres, provides a strong ecosystem for international business and trade, making it a strategic location for the bank to further strengthen financial links between UK-based businesses and opportunities across Africa’s rapidly expanding markets.
Founded in 1990 by Jim Ovia, Zenith Bank has evolved into one of Africa’s most respected financial institutions with a strong capital base and a consistent record of profitability. The bank’s operations span over 500 branches and business offices across Nigeria, alongside subsidiaries in several African countries including Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Côte d’Ivoire.

Internationally, Zenith Bank maintains a presence in major financial centres such as the United Kingdom, France, the United Arab Emirates and China, reflecting its commitment to supporting global trade and investment flows involving Africa.
Manchester’s diverse economic base—spanning manufacturing, engineering, logistics, technology and consumer goods—positions the city as a natural gateway for businesses seeking deeper engagement with African markets. The new branch will work closely with Zenith Bank’s London operations and its wider international network to support clients expanding across continents.
With the Manchester launch, Zenith Bank continues to advance its vision of becoming a globally connected African banking institution, facilitating trade, investment and stronger economic bridges between Africa and the rest of the world.
