Dabiri-Erewa Condemns Killing Of Nigerian E-Hailing Driver In South Africa, Demands Justice

The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has strongly condemned the murder of a young Nigerian e-hailing driver in South Africa, calling for justice, arrests and prosecution of those responsible.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Dabiri-Erewa described the killing of 22-year-old Isaac Satlet in Pretoria as “worrisome” and urged South African authorities to take urgent action to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians and all non-indigenes in the country.
Isaac Satlet, who also worked as a student, was reportedly killed on February 11, 2026, after picking up passengers through an e-hailing platform. According to police reports, a male and female duo hijacked his vehicle and attacked him. His body and the stolen car were later found in the Atteridgeville area, with dashcam footage aiding the swift arrest of a female suspect. The woman is expected to appear before Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on February 16, 2026, charged with murder and car hijacking. Police are still searching for the male suspect.
“As Nigerians and brothers in Africa, we are deeply troubled by the increasing rate of criminality and killings against our people in South Africa,” Dabiri-Erewa said. She challenged the notion that such violent acts should be carried out by individuals considered to be part of a sister African nation.
Dabiri-Erewa further emphasised the need for South African authorities to ensure justice is served, and for strengthened protection mechanisms for non-nationals living and working in the country. She reiterated NIDCOM’s commitment to intensified risk mapping and structured engagement with host authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Friends, family and social media users have expressed outrage at the killing and continue to call for improved safety measures for e-hailing drivers and other Nigerians abroad. Satlet was remembered as hardworking and ambitious, with plans to further his education in Canada before his life was cut short.
