Thirteen commercial sex workers, including 12 Nigerian women and one Ghanaian, have been arrested in Koforidua, Eastern Region of Ghana, during a special police operation targeting prostitution and human trafficking.

The arrest was carried out by the New Juaben South Municipal Police Command on Monday, February 10, 2026, following a complaint filed days earlier by a 30-year-old Nigerian woman identified as Stella Godwill.

According to police, Godwill alleged that she was trafficked from Nigeria to Ghana by her supposed mistress, Christabel Simon Monday, and forced into prostitution. She claimed she was required to meet a daily target of GH¢400, but on the day of the incident, she was only able to raise GH¢250, which was allegedly rejected.

She further accused her mistress and her boyfriend, Simon Kwarteng, of physically assaulting her over the shortfall.

Following investigations, police moved to Dabiasem, a suburb of New Juaben, where they arrested Christabel and uncovered a brothel operation, leading to the arrest of 12 other women. Condoms were reportedly found during the operation.

In addition to the 13 sex workers, police also arrested a landlord and a bouncer believed to be involved in the illegal activities, bringing the total number of arrests to 15.

The suspects, aged between 15 and 31, are being investigated under Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, which prohibits prostitution, human trafficking, and operating brothels. Authorities confirmed that the minor involved has been separated for protection.

Police say investigations are ongoing and the suspects remain in custody pending further legal action.
