Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola has added her voice to the growing conversation around rent increases and landlord-tenant challenges in Lagos, describing some practices as “wickedness of the highest level.”

In a post shared on her X page, the actress called out the experience of renting an apartment, spending heavily to fix and upgrade it sometimes doubling the cost of the rent only for landlords to later increase the rent or issue a quit notice. According to her, the situation is frustrating and unfair, especially for tenants who invest their resources into making a rented space livable.

Bolaji further reacted to stories shared by other renters under her post, describing them as “crazy.” She noted that while she believes in leaving a place better than she met it, the realities of renting in Lagos have changed the way tenants should approach property upgrades.

Advising renters, she urged that any repairs or improvements should only be done after clearly agreeing on terms with the landlord. Alternatively, she suggested renting a brand-new apartment to avoid the stress and losses that often come with fixing older properties.
