Renowned Nigerian pastor and relationship coach Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo has once again addressed critics after a video of him getting a Bible-inspired tattoo went viral online.
The tattoo, revealed on his official social media pages to mark his 50th birthday, features the inscription John 3:16 in Roman numerals — “III: XVI,” a verse widely recognized as the cornerstone of the Gospel message.
The viral post ignited a heated debate on social media, with many followers questioning whether a pastor should have a tattoo, citing traditional interpretations of scripture. In response, Pastor Kingsley explained that the Bible nowhere explicitly forbids Christians from having tattoos and urged his critics to avoid imposing personal or denominational beliefs on others.
According to him, the controversy overlooked the greater purpose of his decision spreading the Gospel. He pointed out that the discussion resulting from his tattoo had effectively helped preach John 3:16 to millions of people within 24 hours, as blogs and social media platforms shared the scripture widely during the uproar.
Pastor Kingsley also challenged critics to present clear scriptural or scientific evidence proving that having a tattoo is inherently wrong for Christians, stressing that many objections are based on personal preferences, church traditions, or cultural interpretations rather than the Bible itself. He warned against forcing these views on others as if they were universal requirements for believers.
