Five Everyday Items You Should Never Put In The Microwave — Digital Creator Warns Nigerians

A digital creator has released an important safety video, warning Nigerians about everyday household items that can become dangerous when placed inside a microwave. In her explanation, she highlighted how many people unknowingly put themselves at risk simply because they are unaware that certain materials react badly to microwave heat.

She opened the video by stressing that stainless steel should never enter the microwave under any circumstance. According to her, many people still use stainless plates and covers out of habit, but this material can reflect heat waves, spark aggressively, and ignite a fire. She advised viewers to always use proper microwave covers instead.

She also addressed the common mistake of microwaving foil takeaway packs, a habit many have formed from warming leftovers brought home from parties, weddings, or friendly visits. The creator explained that any form of foil, no matter how cute or convenient, is highly unsafe in a microwave because it can burn, damage the appliance, and potentially injure the user.

Another surprising item she mentioned is the popular coconut shell bowl. While they are stylish and eco-friendly, she emphasized that they are not built for microwave heat. Food can be microwaved separately and then transferred into them, but heating food directly inside these bowls poses a real danger.

She further cautioned against placing melamine plates in the microwave. Although these plates are common in Nigerian homes, they are not designed to withstand microwave heat and can melt or release harmful substances. She reminded viewers to always check for a microwave-safe symbol at the bottom of any plate before using it.

To round off her message, she explained that not all glass jars are microwave-safe, even though many people assume otherwise. She gave an example of a glass jar she has owned for years that is not safe for microwave use, compared to others she purchased from IKEA that explicitly indicate their heat tolerance. She added that the same rule applies to freezers, as some glass jars can expand and burst when frozen.

The creator’s message is clear: always look for the microwave-safe sign, avoid assumptions, and take kitchen safety seriously. A few seconds of caution can prevent electrical damage, fires, and serious injuries.
