Apostle Johnson Suleman: “Stop Calling Pastors When Terrorists Strike”

Apostle Johnson Suleman has strongly addressed criticisms directed at Christian leaders following recent terrorist attacks in parts of Nigeria. In a passionate message captured in a circulating video, the cleric condemned what he described as the unfair habit of calling out pastors whenever acts of terrorism occur in the country.

Suleman questioned why pastors are repeatedly blamed for not speaking up, pointing out that terrorism in Nigeria does not originate from Christian ideology. He emphasized that no known terrorist attack has ever been carried out with a perpetrator shouting Christian phrases like “Praise the Lord” or “Thank you, Jesus” before pulling a trigger.

According to him, those who expect Christian pastors to issue statements after every attack are directing their frustrations at the wrong people. He argued that if terrorists openly identify with a particular religion, then the public should demand accountability from the leaders of that faith, not Christian clergy.

Suleman further explained that pastors are already speaking out, not for religious defence, but for humanity, and criticised those who assume silence simply because they do not see statements on social media.

To support his point, Apostle Suleman revealed images and references to his personal visits to crisis-stricken regions including Benue and Yola, where he met with governors and displaced persons. He narrated how he travelled to affected communities, visited IDP camps, offered relief materials, and stood with victims even when he was warned not to come.

He stressed that meaningful impact is not always publicised online and noted that many people who accuse pastors of silence have never left the comfort of their phones to witness the suffering firsthand.

Apostle Suleman concluded by affirming that Christian leaders are not only speaking, but acting, working directly with victims, communities, and authorities to bring comfort and assistance whenever tragedy strikes.
