PETER OBI REACTS TO TINUBU’S PLANNED VISIT TO BENUE, CALLS FOR SWIFTER RESPONSE TO NATIONAL TRAGEDIES

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled visit to Benue State in the wake of recent deadly attacks that left dozens dead and many displaced.

The Presidency, on Monday, announced that Tinubu would visit the state on Wednesday—a move widely seen as a response to mounting public criticism over the federal government’s initial silence.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Obi described the news of the President’s planned visit as “refreshing” but stressed that national tragedies demand timelier and more compassionate responses from leadership.

“It was refreshing news on Monday to a bewildered nation learning that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finally decided to visit the scene of the brutal killings in Benue State. For this, I thank him,” Obi stated.

However, he urged the President to extend a similar gesture to Niger State, which recently experienced significant loss of life due to flooding.
