NOLLYWOOD REIGNS AT #AMVCA11 AS SEVEN DOORS SWEEPS MAJOR AWARDS

The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) lit up Lagos with glitz, glamour, and a glorious celebration of African storytelling and it was a big night for Seven Doors, the historical drama that stole the show.
Directed by the formidable trio Femi Adebayo, Adebayo Tijani, and Tope Adebayo, Seven Doors clinched two of the night’s most coveted accolades: Best Lead Actor for Femi Adebayo and Best Lead Actress for Chioma Chukwuka, whose award was received on her behalf by Adebayo. The gripping series follows King Adedunjoye, a reluctant monarch bound by a generational curse, who must take six additional wives to break it despite his love for his only wife, Amaka.
Beyond the top acting categories, Seven Doors also bagged Best Score/Music (Tolu Obanro), solidifying its place as one of the year’s standout productions.
Hosted on Saturday, May 10, 2025, the star-studded ceremony didn’t just honour today’s trailblazers, it paid homage to legends. Screen icons Sani Mu’azu and Nkem Owoh received Lifetime Achievement Awards, while filmmaker Kayode Kasum walked away with the Trailblazer Award, celebrated for pushing creative boundaries and genre-bending innovation.
Elsewhere, Lateef Adedimeji’s Lisabi (The Uprising) emerged as another dominant force, earning multiple nods and wins including Best Indigenous Language (West Africa), Best Makeup, and Best Art Direction.
From compelling documentaries to boundary-breaking digital content, the evening showcased the rich tapestry of talent across the continent. Gabriel Afolayan (Inside Life) and Mercy Aigbe (Farmer’s Bride) picked up Best Supporting Actor and Actress respectively, while Blessing Uzzi shone brightly with dual wins for Best Writing (Movie) and Best Movie for Freedom Way.
The AMVCAs, organized by MultiChoice via Africa Magic, remain the continent’s most prestigious film and television awards, recognizing brilliance both on-screen and behind the scenes since 2013.
