EFCC CONFIRMS VERYDARKMAN TO BE CHARGED SOON OVER MULTIPLE PETITIONS

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that controversial social media critic, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), will soon be arraigned in court following his recent arrest.
In a statement to BBC News Pidgin, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the influencer was taken into custody in response to multiple petitions against him, primarily on allegations of cyberstalking.
“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” Oyewale explained. “He will be released once he meets bail conditions, and we will proceed to court as soon as possible. We are law-abiding.”
Asked whether the arrest had anything to do with his recent visit to a GTBank branch in Abuja over alleged deductions from his mother’s account, the EFCC clarified that the case was unrelated, stressing that the complaints came from different individuals and that the commission has a responsibility to protect petitioners.
VDM was arrested on Friday, shortly after he posted a video online detailing his confrontation with GTBank staff. Reports allege that he was rough-handled during the arrest, sparking a new wave of outrage from his supporters online.
As public attention grows around the case, the EFCC maintains that the law will take its course in handling the matter.
