OSUN AMOTEKUN CONFIRMS DEATH OF OPERATIVE AFTER AMBUSH IN IWO

The Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has confirmed the death of one of its operatives, Lamidi Abiodun, following a deadly ambush by suspected armed hoodlums in Iwo, Osun State.
In a statement issued by Corps Commander Isaac Omoyele and relayed through the corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the attack occurred on Wednesday at the Papa boundary area of Iwo. It followed a distress call from local farmers in the Papa Farm area, who reported an assault on their farmland.
In response, a joint team comprising Amotekun operatives and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) was deployed to the area. However, they were ambushed upon arrival by gunmen allegedly led by a notorious criminal identified as Akeem Olofa.
“Mr. Lamidi Abiodun was fatally attacked with a machete to the head after gunshots fired at him proved ineffective,” Abass stated, noting that the operative died on the spot.
The statement further revealed that while most of the security team managed to flee, one VGN member, Nurudeen Alowonle, remains missing, and another operative, Alex Sola, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.
The corps described Abiodun’s death as a profound loss to the agency and the wider security network in the state. “Mr. Abiodun was a dedicated officer who died in the line of duty. This is a painful moment for us,” the statement read.
The incident has been reported to the Nigeria Police Division in Iwo for further investigation and legal action. Abiodun’s remains have been deposited in a local mortuary, pending further arrangements.
Meanwhile, security agencies have pledged to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face justice. “We are working closely with other security outfits to bring the attackers to book. They will not escape justice,” Abass assured.
He also appealed to the public to provide any useful information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for the ambush.
Despite the loss, the Osun Amotekun Corps reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
