LATE GOSPEL SINGER OSINACHI’S HUSBAND SENTENCED TO D£ATH BY HANGING

Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the FCT High Court, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu — husband of the late gospel singer, Osinachi — to death by hanging.
The judgment was delivered today, April 28, after the court found Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide leading to the singer’s death on April 8, 2022.
In her ruling, Justice Nwosu-Iheme stated that the prosecution successfully discharged the burden of proof as required by law, establishing Nwachukwu’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
Nwachukwu was first arraigned on June 3, 2022, by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF) on behalf of the Federal Government, facing a 23-count charge. The charges included culpable homicide punishable by death, spousal battery, child cruelty, and criminal intimidation, among others.
The prosecution presented 17 witnesses — including two of Osinachi’s children (PW4 and PW5) — and tendered 25 documents as evidence. In his defence, Nwachukwu testified personally, called four additional witnesses, and submitted four exhibits.
Before sentencing, the defence counsel, Reginald Nwali, appealed for leniency, while the prosecution counsel, Mrs. Aderonke Imala, urged the court to uphold the full weight of the law.
Justice Nwosu-Iheme sentenced Nwachukwu to death by hanging on Count 1. He also received two years’ imprisonment each on Counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18; six months’ imprisonment on Count 10; three years’ imprisonment on Count 11; and fines of ₦500,000 and ₦200,000 on Counts 6 and 7, respectively.
