POLICE URGE NATASHA AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN TO HALT HOMECOMING PLANS
The police have urged Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to cancel her planned Sallah rally in Kogi State’s Central Senatorial District.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, emphasized that the rally contravenes the state government’s recent ban on political gatherings, which was issued on Monday.
The statement read, “In light of intelligence reports indicating security threats in Kogi State, and following the recent ban on all forms of rallies and processions by the Kogi State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Command, has called for the cancellation of the rally planned for Okene. This is in the interest of maintaining peace in the state.”
Dantawaye continued, “Intelligence suggests that some hoodlums may hijack the rally and disrupt the peace. The Command cannot risk disturbing the stability the state is currently enjoying.”
The police also issued a stern warning against any attempts to defy the ban, stating, “Given the security threat surrounding the planned rally, the Kogi State Police Command advises the organizers to cancel the event to prevent any breakdown of law and order. The Command will not hesitate to enforce the full force of the law on anyone who jeopardizes the peace and order of the state.”
Despite the ban, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has remained firm in her decision to proceed with her “homecoming” event, asserting that she is simply returning to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with her constituents.
