FIRE RAZES ONITSHA MAIN MARKET
A fire outbreak has occurred at Onitsha Main Market, specifically on Ifejika Street near Sokoto Road in Anambra State. The inferno, which reportedly began in a building around 6:20 a.m., has since spread to an adjacent structure.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Eyewitnesses, including locals and bystanders, were seen assisting fire service personnel in salvaging valuables and merchandise from the burning structures.
Confirming the incident, Chukwudi Chiketa, Head of the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, told Punch on Friday, “Anambra State Fire Service is currently on intervention at the scene of the fire outbreak at Ifejika Street, by Sokoto Road, Onitsha. The distress call came at 6:20 a.m. today, and our firefighters deployed immediately.”
He assured the public that the situation is under control and urged residents to remain calm.
