NNAMDI KANU APOLOGIZES TO FEDERAL HIGH COURT OVER OUTBURST
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has formally apologized to the Federal High Court, presiding Judge Justice Binta Nyako, and senior prosecutor Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, for his conduct during the last hearing of his terrorism trial.
Kanu, through a prepared speech delivered by his lead counsel, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Kanu Agabi, expressed deep remorse for his courtroom outburst. He pleaded for forgiveness and assured the court of his commitment to maintaining decorum throughout the trial.
In the heartfelt statement, Kanu acknowledged that while he had reasons to be frustrated, he should not have allowed his emotions to dictate his actions.
“In his anger, he lashed out at the Federal High Court, Justice Binta Nyako, the prosecution team, and even his own legal representatives,” Agabi stated.
Offering a direct apology, he continued:
“I sincerely apologize to Justice Binta Nyako, she did not deserve the attack. I also extend my apologies to Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, a distinguished lawyer who was unfairly castigated.
“I appeal for understanding and forgiveness. Nnamdi Kanu is not a perfect man, but he is a man of conviction, advocating for the Igbo people, who are known for their resilience and fearlessness. While we may have differences, reconciliation should be sought through peace, not hostility,” Agabi pleaded.
Responding to the apology, Awomolo, SAN, acknowledged Kanu’s remorse and stated that he had forgiven him. He clarified his role in the case, emphasizing that he is a prosecutor, not a persecutor, and is committed to ensuring a fair and swift resolution of the trial.
