FCT POLICE CONFIRM FATAL ACCIDENT NEAR NYANYA BRIDGE: SIX DEAD, FOURTEEN VEHICLES DESTROYED

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed a tragic motor accident that occurred on Wednesday, March 19, at approximately 6:58 PM, near Nyanya Bridge. The accident resulted in the deaths of six individuals and the destruction of fourteen vehicles.

In an official statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the police disclosed that a distress call was received by the Karu Division, reporting that a cement-laden trailer traveling from AYA towards Nyanya Bridge lost control and rammed into stationary vehicles caught in traffic.

“The impact of the crash sparked a raging inferno, engulfing fourteen vehicles. Panic ensued as bystanders and motorists scrambled for safety, while emergency responders raced against time to rescue those trapped,” Adeh stated.

Despite their swift intervention, six victims succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the hospital. Their remains have been deposited at the Karu General Hospital Morgue.

The FCT Police Command, in collaboration with the Fire Service, other security agencies, and courageous bystanders, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and restore normal traffic flow.

Expressing deep condolences to the families of the deceased, the Command assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.

“We urge all motorists to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and maintain safe driving practices, particularly in high-traffic areas. Tragedies like this are avoidable if proper road safety measures are observed,” Adeh emphasized.
