GOVERNOR SOLUDO BANS MARKET PREACHING, IMPOSES ₦500,000 FINE
Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has enforced a ₦500,000 fine on individuals using loudspeakers for public preaching in marketplaces.
Speaking to traders at Ochanja Market, Onitsha, the governor emphasized that such activities contribute to noise pollution, disturbing both traders and residents.
“If you want to preach the word of God, go to your church. You are causing noise pollution here. You cannot come to a marketplace and disturb everyone,” Soludo stated.
He clarified that marketplaces are meant for business, not religious gatherings, urging preachers to use designated worship centers instead.
“Those who wish to listen to your message will come to you in church. You cannot force people in the market to hear you,” he added.
The governor reiterated that using public spaces for preaching without permission is a violation of the law, warning that offenders will face legal consequences.
“We have banned loudspeakers in markets due to noise pollution, which affects people’s eardrums. You cannot force people to listen to your preaching. We are also cracking down on fake pastors and prophets in Anambra,” he declared.
