NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY EXPELS STUDENT FOR AS$AULTING LECTURER
The authorities of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) have expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for assaulting a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.
The announcement was made on Friday, February 14, 2025, in a statement by the Acting Registrar, Victor Modebelu. According to Modebelu, the Acting Vice-Chancellor received a report from the Student Disciplinary Committee regarding the assault, which was deemed a serious violation of the institution’s disciplinary regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR).
“The Acting Vice-Chancellor has reviewed the Student Disciplinary Committee’s report on your assault against a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies. The committee found your actions to be gross misconduct and a violation of the Students’ Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR),” the statement read.
“As a result, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University Senate, has approved the committee’s recommendation for your expulsion. You are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, with immediate effect. You are also required to vacate the university premises and return any university property in your possession.”
The incident gained widespread attention after a video surfaced online, showing Precious allegedly attacking the lecturer, identified as Dr. Chukwudi Okoye.
