JUSTICE BINTA NYAKO INDEFINITELY ADJOURNS NNAMDI KANU’S TRIAL
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has indefinitely adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following his objection to her presiding over the case.
During Monday’s hearing, Kanu argued that Justice Nyako had previously recused herself and, therefore, could not oversee his trial. He emphasized that he appeared in court solely out of respect for the rule of law but was dissatisfied with the decision of the Chief Judge to return the case to Nyako.
Expressing his discontent, Kanu maintained that the prosecution had no grounds to continue the case against him and accused the judge of bias. He further criticized the Nigerian judicial system, stating that a lack of proper legal understanding was affecting the country.
The prosecution counsel objected to Kanu’s remarks, arguing that it was improper for him to insult the court. The counsel also urged the judge to set a definite date for the trial, highlighting that the prosecution had not filed a written application.
Despite the arguments, Justice Nyako ruled to adjourn the case indefinitely, leaving the trial’s future uncertain.
