The Anambra State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with the kidnapping and brutal murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Parading the suspects at the police headquarters in Awka on Friday, February 7, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, revealed that one of the most notorious members of the gang, 20-year-old Peter Sunday, had a prominent chest tattoo inscribed with the words, “No peace 4 d Government.”
Addressing journalists, CP Itam stated:
“Many of you are aware of the horrific murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, the Onitsha North 1 representative in the Anambra State House of Assembly, who was abducted on December 24, 2024, in Onitsha.”
“This tragic event prompted the Command to intensify intelligence gathering and launch a discreet investigation.”
“In the early hours of February 6, 2025, during a rescue operation near the Second Niger Bridge, a joint security team comprising Police and Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) operatives unfortunately found Hon. Azuka’s lifeless body at the scene. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
Following this discovery, the Command, in collaboration with the Anambra State Vigilante Group, acted on intelligence and arrested nine suspects directly linked to the crime. During the operation, security operatives recovered two pump-action rifles. One of the suspects sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during an exchange of gunfire with the police.
