CHAØS ERUPTS AT PDP HEADQUARTERS AS THUGS INVADE BoT MEETING

Chaøs broke out at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, Jan. 29, when alleged thugs stormed the Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting, causing a major disruption.

The meeting, presided over by Acting National Chairman Amb. Umar Damagum, had several key party members in attendance, including National Secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, BoT Chairman Sen. Adolphus Wabara, Sen. Ben Obi, Board Secretary Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and former Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye.

Tensions escalated when a heated clash erupted between Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye, both contesting the PDP National Secretary position. According to Vanguard, Ude-Okoye, who arrived before Anyanwu and Damagum, was later forced out of the venue after Anyanwu’s arrival, triggering chaos.

The power tussle dates back to 2023 when the PDP South East zone nominated Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu, who had been selected as the party’s Imo State governorship candidate. The zone insisted Anyanwu should vacate the role, adding to the internal party dispute.

On Dec. 20, 2024, an Appeal Court in Enugu upheld a previous High Court ruling that removed Anyanwu as National Secretary and affirmed Ude-Okoye as the rightful officeholder. However, last week, the Court of Appeal in Abuja issued a restraining order allowing Anyanwu to retain the position until the Supreme Court delivers a final ruling on the matter.

The latest unrest at the PDP headquarters underscores the deepening leadership crisis within the party.
