ILE-IFE K*LLING: COURT UPHOLDS RAMON ADEDOYIN’S JUDGEMENT

Ramon Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Hotels in Ile-Ife, has been sentenced to death by the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, for his involvement in the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a graduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University.

This ruling affirms the earlier verdict by the Osun State High Court, marking a significant development in a case that has captivated national attention. The appellate court had reserved judgment since October 29, 2024.

In its decision, the Appeal Court stated:
“The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.”

However, the appellate court overturned specific orders from the lower court, including:

• The forfeiture of Hilton Hotel.
• The directive for Adedoyin and others to provide educational scholarships to Timothy Adegoke’s children.

The tragic events leading to this verdict began on November 5, 2021, when Timothy Adegoke traveled to Ile-Ife for his Master of Business Administration exams. He had booked a stay at Hilton Hotels, owned by Adedoyin.

Adegoke’s sudden disappearance sparked alarm after he lost all contact with friends and family 48 hours later. Following an investigation, his body was discovered buried in a shallow grave.

The police subsequently charged Adedoyin and six hotel staff members, including Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwole Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem, Adebayo Kunle, and Adedeji Adesola, with the murder of the 37-year-old.

Justice Oyebola Ojo of the Osun State High Court found Adedoyin and three others guilty, sentencing them to death by hanging. This judgment and its subsequent affirmation serve as a significant chapter in the pursuit of justice for Timothy Adegoke.
