Today, Nollywood honours a towering figure in African cinema Ambassador Saidi Balogun, Born on February 5, 1967, Saidi Balogun’s career in entertainment has spanned nearly five decades, shaping the landscape of Yoruba and Nigerian film with unmatched passion and creativity.
Balogun began his career in 1978 with the television programme Youth Today on NTA, setting the stage for a remarkable trajectory that would see him star in, produce, and direct over twenty acclaimed films. Among his notable achievements are pioneering works such as Modupe Temi the first two‑cast movie in Africa and Gbogbo Ere the first three‑cast movie in West Africa, milestones that showcased his innovative spirit and storytelling boldness.
Beyond acting, Balogun has served as a leader in the industry, including his role as President of The Golden Movie Ambassadors Association of Nigeria, where he continues to mentor and advocate for artistic excellence. He has also been appointed to key positions such as membership on the Yaba College of Technology Governing Council, bringing his experience and vision to the realms of education and cultural development.
