“Why Work Six Months For Free?” — Dubai Millionaire Slams High-Tax Economies

A Dubai-based millionaire has sparked conversation online after sharing his views on taxation, wealth creation, and economic growth, contrasting the system in the United Arab Emirates with that of many Western countries.

In the video, the businessman questioned the logic behind high tax regimes where individuals reportedly pay between 40 to 60 per cent of their income in taxes. According to him, such systems often fail to deliver commensurate benefits in areas like safety, healthcare, and education, despite the heavy financial burden placed on citizens.

He highlighted that the UAE operates a low-tax or no-tax model, yet remains one of the safest places in the world, with access to high-quality healthcare and education. While residents pay directly for some services, he argued that for high earners, the overall cost of living and doing business can still be cheaper than in heavily taxed economies.

The millionaire explained that Dubai’s economic philosophy dates back decades, noting that the city positioned itself as a global trade hub by deliberately avoiding heavy taxation, a move he described as unconventional at the time. This approach, he said, attracted traders, investors, and entrepreneurs, embedding commerce into the city’s economic DNA.

He further explained how Dubai’s model fuels economic growth through spending cycles rather than taxation. Wealthy investors purchasing luxury properties inject millions into the economy, benefiting brokers, retailers, service providers, and hospitality businesses. This circulation of money, he noted, boosts GDP and drives demand across multiple sectors.

According to him, the surge in high-value real estate sales, including mansions worth tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars, reflects the volume of capital flowing into the country. He argued that encouraging spending and investment, rather than restricting wealth through taxation, is what has made Dubai’s economy thrive.

The comments have generated debate online, with supporters praising the UAE’s economic strategy and critics questioning whether such a model can be replicated elsewhere.
