Nigeria’s Muslim community is in deep mourning following the passing of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, a respected Islamic scholar and one of the most prominent leaders of the Tijjaniyya Sufi order in Nigeria and West Africa. The revered cleric died in the early hours of Thursday, November 27, 2025, at a private hospital in Bauchi State, reportedly after a brief illness linked to old age.

Born on June 29, 1927, Sheikh Bauchi dedicated nearly his entire life to Islamic teaching, guidance, and spiritual mentorship. For decades, he led daily tafsīr (Qur’anic exegesis) sessions, taught Qur’an recitation, nurtured students of knowledge, and produced generations of Islamic teachers who went on to spread learning across Nigeria, West Africa, and parts of the Muslim world.
