OTCI INTERVENES TO RESOLVE MINISTRY MANDATE CLASH IN LAGOS

In a bid to promote seamless governance and eliminate bureaucratic overlap, the Office of Transformation, Creativity, and Innovation (OTCI) has resolved a lingering mandate conflict between two Lagos State ministries — the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development (MWID) and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR).
The resolution followed a high-level stakeholders’ engagement held recently in Alausa, where representatives of both ministries gathered to address the recurring tensions surrounding dredging and mining responsibilities across the state.
Speaking at the meeting, Director-General of OTCI, Mrs. Toyin Anjous-Ademuyiwa, highlighted the urgency of delineating functions to ensure clarity and improve inter-ministerial cooperation.
“There has been a critical need to define roles concerning dredging, mining, and mineral resource management. This clarity will not only enhance efficiency but also prevent policy clashes moving forward,” she said.
According to her, the engagement created a platform for constructive dialogue, resulting in key resolutions that include the establishment of boundary limitations and the coordination of dredging activities — all to be supervised by the OTCI for strict compliance.
The deliberation featured technical presentations, contributions from ministry stakeholders, and agreements on a more streamlined governance framework.
Anjous-Ademuyiwa expressed optimism about the outcome of the engagement, noting that it marks a pivotal moment in the journey toward sustainable development and effective public service delivery in Lagos State.
“The success of this resolution is a step forward for governance in Lagos. It shows what collaboration can achieve,” she said.
The OTCI assured continuous monitoring and support to ensure the resolutions are implemented effectively.
