FUBARA BREAKS SILENCE, CALLS FOR CALM AMID STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RIVERS STATE
Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called on the people of Rivers State to remain calm and law-abiding following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
In a statewide address on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara reassured residents of his administration’s unwavering commitment to upholding constitutional order and safeguarding the interests of the people despite the deepening political turmoil.
“Since assuming office, we have remained guided by our constitutional oath and a deep sense of duty. Our priority has always been the protection of lives and property and the continuous progress of our state,” Fubara stated.
The governor emphasized that his administration has consistently adhered to the rule of law, even in the face of political tensions. He pointed to the swift implementation of peace agreements—including the reinstatement of commissioners who had previously resigned—as proof of his commitment to stability and good governance.
Fubara further highlighted his government’s compliance with a Supreme Court ruling, stressing that every measure taken was aimed at restoring normalcy, not for personal gain, but to foster peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State.
However, he accused members of the Rivers State House of Assembly of undermining reconciliation efforts, making it increasingly difficult to achieve genuine peace and effective governance.
Despite the challenges, Fubara assured the people that his government remains fully functional, ensuring that salaries are paid, development projects continue, and security is maintained.
“Rivers State remains safe, secure, and peaceful under our watch. We are a resilient people, and we will face this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in the democratic process,” he reassured.
