WIGWE: GRANDPA DRAGS GRANDDAUGHTER TO COURT OVER PROPERTY DISPUTE

Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, the 90-year-old father of the late Herbert Wigwe, former Group Managing Director and CEO of Access Bank, has taken legal action regarding the guardianship of his grandchildren and the management of properties belonging to his late son. The case, which has drawn significant attention, centers on the administration of Herbert Wigwe’s estate.

On February 6, 2025, Justice A.O. Adeyemi of the Lagos State High Court Family/Probate Court in Ikeja dismissed an application filed by Christian Wigwe and Pastor Shyngle Wigwe. The application sought the appointment of interim administrators to oversee the estate of the late banking icon. According to ThisDay, the court’s decision has left the family’s legal battle unresolved.

The plaintiffs argue that, with probate still pending, certain assets within Herbert Wigwe’s estate remain unaccounted for and are being managed by the defendants without full transparency. They are pushing for greater oversight to ensure the proper handling of the estate.

Recall that Herbert Wigwe, aged 57, tragically lost his life on February 9, 2024, in a helicopter crash near Nipton, California.

The devastating accident also claimed the lives of his wife, Doreen Chizoba Wigwe, their 29-year-old son, Chizi Wigwe, former Nigerian Exchange Group Plc Chairman Abimbola Ogunbanjo, and two crew members.

The incident sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s financial and business communities, as well as the nation at large.
