Suzette Chibuogu Van-Lare, whose ex-partner took his own life following a child custody battle, has broken her silence. For days, she remained quiet while her father, businessman Francis Van-Lare, addressed the controversy and disputed various reports circulating online.
Now, Suzette has released a statement addressing the tragic incident. Taking to Instagram, the doctor of medical science shared her side of the story, shedding light on the challenges she and her children have faced.
*”There are a lot of lies swirling around the internet right now, and it’s impossible to address them all. For years, I have stayed silent as I’ve gone through a journey of character development, resilience, and obedience to God. My children and I had a near-death experience on January 26, and we are now on a journey of healing.
Those who truly know me understand that I have always cared for my kids 100% of the time since their births. Those familiar with our situation know that their dad hasn’t even lived in the same state as us for most of their lives. My son has a permanent disability and has been in therapy for 40 hours a week since he was one. I have always been the primary financial provider for my children—ALWAYS.
My children and I will overcome. The worst night of our lives—when we begged for survival for three hours—has been twisted to paint us as villains.
I have received dozens of threats against my life and my children’s lives. This has to stop. I have videos, pictures, and police records of multiple incidents. I do not want to take it there. THIS HAS TO STOP.
Nobody knows a person like their partner. I respect the memories and experiences others had with him, and I do not seek to tarnish them. But I know the truth, and so do those who truly know me. What others think of me is not my concern.

Her statement follows reports of the tragic passing of Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a 36-year-old cardiologist from Anambra State who was practicing in the United States. He allegedly took his own life amid a custody dispute.
Some online sources claimed a court ordered him to pay $15,000 per month in child support, but Suzette’s father, Francis Van-Lare, refuted this, presenting documents that showed he was ordered to pay $1,900 instead.
Van-Lare further alleged that before his death, Erinne held Suzette and her children at gunpoint. When the police arrived, he reportedly took his own life to avoid facing the consequences of his actions, which could have led to a lengthy prison sentence.
As the story unfolds, Suzette and her family seek healing, urging the public to focus on truth and compassion rather than misinformation and speculation.
