JIMMY JATT OPENS UP ON LOSING EYESIGHT, KIDNEY DISEASE

Nigerian veteran disc jockey, Oluwaforijimi Adewale Amu, popularly known as DJ Jimmy Jatt, has shared details about his health struggles, including losing his eyesight and being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

During a recent appearance on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds, hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the 58-year-old DJ opened up about his ordeal, which began in 2020, stemming from a pre-existing condition—diabetes.

Jimmy Jatt revealed that he first lost his sight and had to undergo surgery to restore his vision. Shortly after, he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease while living in the United States.

Sharing the sequence of events, the Lagos-born DJ explained that his health challenges started after he decided to spend more time outside Nigeria in 2019, following a lifetime of residing in Lagos.

“Maybe I caused it myself because, in 2019, I decided to spend more time outside Nigeria. I had lived all my life in Lagos and wanted to explore other parts of the world—Europe, America, everywhere.

But in 2020, I started experiencing health issues. Due to the travel restrictions at the time, I remained in Nigeria. I lost my sight and had to undergo surgery to regain it. After recovering, I felt the need to stick to my plan of living elsewhere for a while, so I relocated to the U.S. While there, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.”

Jimmy Jatt further revealed that he underwent dialysis in the U.S. before eventually returning to Nigeria for a kidney transplant. Following the procedure, he took some time off to focus on recovery but later resumed DJing across America and Europe. He returned to Nigeria in December 2024.
